About us

South West England

Capita Symonds’ roots in the South West stretch back to the 1960s when Percy Thomas Architects (acquired by Capita Symonds in 2004) designed the landmark Clifton Cathedral.

Since then the company has grown rapidly and now employs nearly 300 local staff across six offices. It also plays a key role in the local community, being involved in a range of fundraising events as well as being proud sponsor of Bristol Rugby for many years.

In 2009 we acquired Corsham-based MMB Associates, a specialist in the development, implementation, operation and management of Intelligent Transport Systems on the UK motorway and trunk road network, while in 2010 we acquired leading local healthcare consultancy Inventures, with its head office in Bath.

Capita Symonds also has a 15-year strategic partnership with Swindon Borough Council which launched in 2007 and employs 70 multidisciplinary staff.

We’ve worked on a number of important local projects including:

  • Finzels Reach: Capita Symonds is providing project and cost management services on this £255m scheme which will provide a thriving cultural, social and retail centre in the heart of Bristol city centre.
  • University of Bristol Nanoscience & Quantum Information Building (NSQI): Capita Symonds provided project management and architectural services on the laboratories where vibration and acoustic noise levels are among the lowest ever achieved.
  • MoD Abbey Wood, Filton, Bristol: Capita Symonds provided project management and architectural services on the Procurement Executive at Abbey Wood, Bristol, which houses the Ministry of Defence’s professional procurement arm, responsible for buying equipment for Britain’s Armed Forces from Trident submarines to radio sets.
  • Project Armada, Devonport, Plymouth: Project Armada provided 1600 single bed accommodation units for junior and senior ratings in both new and refurbished buildings in an historic setting together with messing and ancillary facilities. The development is currently being added to with new Help for Heroes rehabilitation accommodation.
  • Cabot Circus, Bristol (pictured): Capita Symonds provided transport planning and highway engineering design services on the £600m Cabot Circus shopping centre and mixed-use development in Bristol.
