Our people are critical to our long term success and growth. We
aspire to be an ‘Employer of Choice’ and to achieve this we need to
ensure that we have committed, skilled and empowered people at all
levels of our organisation. We need to attract and retain the best
people to deliver our strategy, both now and in the future.
Enhancing skills and cultivating talent
We’re committed to fostering a learning environment as we
understand the positive impact that this has on our staff, our
business and the delivery of services to our clients.
By providing an extensive range of training opportunities we are
able to maximise our resources by developing a flexible workforce
that is multi-skilled and can respond to the changing requirements
of projects, services, clients and the industry as a whole. With
such a diverse workforce, we recognise that everyone has different
needs, objectives and aspirations so we offer a variety of
opportunities for employees to develop manual, technical,
professional and personal skills throughout their career.
We are currently supporting staff to achieve qualifications
ranging from technician to chartered status with over 40 different
professional bodies.
Celebrating success
Our annual Success Awards celebrate our vision and the
individuals and teams across our business that are helping us to
achieve it.
There were 12 awards presented in December 2012 to a diverse
range of people and projects covering our successes across a wide
range of sectors. Read case studies of
all winners.
Listening to our employees
When people feel engaged and valued productivity and creativity
are increased, and retention rates are higher. We communicate
regularly with our employees through formal and informal channels
to ensure that they understand
the ambitions and performance of our business and their role in its
success.
Market conditions made 2012 another challenging 12 months. It is
more important than ever, therefore, that we listen and try to
respond to the views and suggestions of our employees. We conduct
an annual Staff Survey, which gives our people the opportunity to
tell us where we are doing well and identify opportunities for
improvement - both at a Capita Symonds and a Capita plc level.
Their feedback is used to inform what we need to concentrate on
improving in the following year.
Health and safety
We believe that our employees are our most valuable resource and
their health, safety and wellbeing is of paramount importance to
us.
As a major provider of professional services to construction,
property and infrastructure markets, we recognise that many of our
activities relate to offices and sites where hazards exist and our
comprehensive Health & Safety Training Policy ensures that our
people are equipped with the appropriate knowledge and
understanding to discharge their responsibilities in a safe and
effective manner.
All our employees receive health and safety training as part of
their induction. As well as mandatory company-wide training we
provide tailored courses for staff that spend time on construction
sites and also our obligations under the Construction Design and
Management (CDM) Regulations 2007.
In 2012 we launched a Centre of Excellence for health and safety
to share best practice and expertise across our business.
