Qualifications: HNC (currently studying BA(Hons) Architecture)
Start date: May 2006
I joined Capita Symonds when Ruddle Wilkinson Architects was acquired in 2006.
I am currently working as Project Runner on a £3mMarks & Spencer remodel in Lowestoft, Norfolk.
This is one of a number of remodels that Capita Ruddle Wilkinson is working on, together with several other architectural practices, as part of M&S' continuing Store Remodel Programme. As well as overseeing the Lowestoft Store from design to work on site, I am also involved in preliminary designs for the other schemes we are currently working on.
I am already a qualified architectural technologist, however my ambition was to become an architect. In 2004 I was given the opportunity to study my for my BA(Hons) Architecture on a part-time basis at Lincoln University taking one day off a week to attend.
I am now in my 3rd year of study. Part-time the degree should take five years to complete, however due to some very hard work and a lot of sacrificed spare time I should complete it in four!
My obvious short term aspirations are to complete my Part I, but looking to the future I am looking to complete my Part II and III and fully qualify as an architect.
I am looking forward to starting to approach projects more as a designer rather than a technologist, although having knowledge of both will put me in very good position.
Any other information you feel may be of interest to graduates considering a career at Capita Symonds?
Over the years, Capita Ruddle Wilkinson has been extremely supportive of my studies and my managers have always taken a keen interest. There's never a shortage of people who I can go to for help or advice and I find that invaluable.
The working environment is also extremely flexible, which enables me to balance my work, my studies, and my precious spare time quite well…although my girlfriend might disagree!
