Qualifications: BCom Commerce
Start date: May 2004
After graduating from Birmingham University in 2002, I worked in marketing for a couple of years specialising in branding for a print management multinational.
An opportunity arose that I knew would give me the chance to be involved in more varied projects, initially within the civils team here, which involved liaison with a range of people and the challenge of develop my business skills. Working in a more rural environment, nearer to home, not only made the journey to work more pleasant but also allowed me to pursue my hobby of horse riding. It's proved to be a really good work/life balance.
I'm running business improvement across Capita Symonds' Infrastructure division, working towards Investors in People accreditation next year. People development is a key area driving business direction and so being involved in this and seeing the benefits is a great opportunity. My role enables me to visit a number of our offices across the UK and to work with people to help bring experience and best practice together.
It's been great so far as I've been involved in a number of exciting initiatives, such as implementation of environment initiatives in my role as Business Support Manager. Regular training has been provided to help me advance in my growing role.
I've been able to transfer my skills and really draw upon my degree learning, and I feel I'm getting a great opportunity to develop my career path. I enjoy working here as I've been offered promotion and can see where I'm heading. Probably most importantly, the people are really friendly and it's a supportive environment which has encouraged me to stay.
