Qualifications: BA(Hons) Dip LA MLI
Start date: March 1996
After completing my degree I came to Travers Morgan (as it was then) for a year out position, before returning to Leeds University for my graduate diploma. I returned to the Colwyn Bay office in 1996 and in 1998 gained chartered membership of the Landscape Institute. I'm part of Colwyn Bay's Environment team, within a growing team of five.
Having enjoyed my year out it was most definitely the people of Colwyn Bay office that inspired me to return. Friendly, helpful and a very sociable bunch!
Being a multidisciplinary office, the workload was both interesting and varied, with plenty of opportunities to gain valuable experience toward my professional practice exams, which required a minimum of two years in working practice.
I've recently undertaken a landscape and visual impact assessment for an existing pumped storage hydro electric power station, which sits in the middle of the Snowdonia National Park.
Other schemes include the landscape character assessment and visual impact of an 18 hole championship golf course and 5 star hotel in Hoylake, on the Wirral, and we have recently undertaken the master planning of a brown-field site in Llandudno Junction, North Wales (soon to become the location of the Welsh Assembly's North Wales offices).
Being a multidisciplinary office, workload is varied and often involves working alongside our civil engineering and architectural colleagues.
Working at Capita Symonds has allowed me to progress my career and obtain chartered status with the Landscape Institute. Training needs are met as and when required. Specialist training has also been undertaken, for example in the field of Environmental Impact Assessment.
