The Public Rights of Way
network in England and Wales allows public access to traffic free
routes and the ability to enjoy open spaces for commuting and
leisure on foot, bicycle and horseback.
Local Authorities have statutory duties to
maintaining the network. Encouraging walking and cycling is
recognised as one of the best ways to improve the health of the
nation and there are also increasing obligations to improve public
access for all levels of ability.
Capita Symonds Public Access Management team
has considerable expertise in the legal and practical issues
associated with Public Rights of Way management as well as
negotiating the development of new routes.
Our experts are trained and fully conversant
with relevant public access legislation including the latest
requirements on open access and disability discrimination. We are
experienced in the survey and inspection of public access
facilities using electronic data capture hardware in conjunction
with modern geographical information systems (GIS).
We maintain good working relationships with a
range of user groups, landowners, professional bodies and statutory
agencies such as Natural England, English Heritage and the
Environment Agency. We recognise that site safety is a very high
priority, and all staff are practised and trained in risk
assessment and CDM regulations.
