Susan Witterick, Director of Acoustics & Air Quality

Susan is Director of the Acoustics and Air Quality team within Capita Symonds. She has worked as an acoustic consultant since 1998 in London, Dublin and Los Angeles and is currently based in Manchester.

Susan has been involved in the design of highly regarded concert halls and music schools, as well as a number of high profile commercial developments.  Sustainability in acoustic design and acoustic conditions in schools, particularly for children with sensory disabilities, are among her many areas of interest. 

She is second trombonist with the Dobcross Brass Monkeys, mum to Elinor, and a keen but ultimately unsuccessful gardener.

Richard King, Principal Consultant

Richard is a Principal Acoustic Consultant in our London office. He has worked in industries as diverse as defence, automotive design and research and has worked in acoustic consultancy since 2003, joining Capita Symonds in September 2011.

Richard has particular experience in mechanical services noise, leisure, education facilities, recording studio design and transportation noise.  He also has experience in Environmental Impact Assessments and undertaking Section 61 agreements with local authorities covering construction noise, including the rail sector. He is a qualified project manager, to IPMA Level D, and has experience of managing large projects, including the Ministry of Defence, Department for Transport and Highways Agency projects. He is also on the Institute of Physics panel for reviewing Chartered Physicist applications.

Richard enjoys growing fruit and vegetables, cooking, watching cricket, playing guitar and spending time with his wife and young daughter.

Claire Drewery, Associate Director of Acoustics & Air Quality

Claire is Associate Director of the Acoustics and Air Quality team within Capita Symonds and is based in Glasgow. She has worked as an acoustic consultant since 2001. Before joining Capita Symonds she was Principal Consultant/Business leader of Hodgson & Hodgson's Acoustic Consultancy division, where she also provided acoustic technical support to the manufacturing divisions of the group.

Claire has a diverse range of experience and expertise including large scale residential, retail, mixed use, healthcare, education, Environmental Impact Assessments, mechanical services noise, vibration, recording studio design and transportation. Claire enjoys kickboxing, cooking and all types of motor sport.

Andrew Bird, Senior Consultant

Andrew has five years of acoustic consultancy experience, delivering both environmental and architectural acoustic design advice for clients ranging from MoD Defence Estates to transport infrastructure.

Andrew’s key roles as Senior Consultant in our London office are client facing and project management, along with advanced computer modelling and report writing. Andrew is experienced in a diverse range of projects including military, transportation, large scale residential, retail, mixed use, healthcare, education, religious and waste recycling facilities.

Andrew enjoys cycling and is a keen saxophonist.

Adrian Morgan, Principal Consultant

Adrian is Principal Consultant in our Manchester office. He joined Capita Symonds' Acoustics team in October 2005 following five years at Knauf Insulation, where he had worked in a wide ranging technical support role, which included acting as sole acoustics specialist for Knauf Insulation’s UK business. 

Winner of the 2001 prize for best IOA Diploma project, he has experience in a wide range of building and environmental acoustic projects with specific expertise in Building Bulletin 93 assessments for acoustic design of schools. 

Adrian enjoys mountain walking when time allows. He is married with two small children.

Anne Unwin, Consultant

Anne developed a keen interest and enthusiasm for acoustics when she joined the team in 2007 on a placement year from university. After successfully gaining her degree in Environmental Science, she rejoined the team in 2009. She has worked on a number of environmental noise assessments for residential and industrial developments and has significant expertise in developing environmental noise propagation models. 

Anne has assisted the team in the acoustic design of educational, defence and hospital projects including several major BSF schemes and Defence Training Review. She has also been actively involved in noise control for outdoor events including Glastonbury, Newmarket Nights, Alexandra Palace and Freeze. In addition, she has been involved in research with London South Bank University regarding noise and vibration from roof top wind turbines 'urbines' and noise from Energy and Waste facilities.

Giles Hine, Consultant

Giles joined Capita Symonds in 2008 following a year’s acoustic consultancy and five years as a local authority Pollution Control Officer where he was the principal contact for liaison with Planning, Building Control and the Environment Agency on all noise, vibration, air quality and Pollution Prevention and Control issues. He gained a Diploma in Acoustics & Noise Control in 2005.

Giles has experience in a wide range of environmental and building acoustic projects with specific expertise in planning. He is a keen sportsperson, enjoying activities such as rowing, running, cycling and skiing when possible. When not playing sports, Giles will probably be found at a pub quiz.

Thomas Cooper, Senior Consultant

Thomas graduated from Salford University with an MSc in Audio Acoustics and since that time his work has covered a broad variety of acoustical disciplines and project types. He is currently a Senior Consultant based in our Manchester office and is also responsible for managing quality assurance for the team. He has worked extensively on educational projects covering several major Building Schools for the Future (BSF) and Academy schemes all over the country.

Thomas also has experience in acoustic design for healthcare, industrial and numerous environmental noise assessments. He is highly experienced in acoustic computer modelling for both building acoustics and environmental noise propagation.

Georgia Rodgers, Graduate Acoustic Consultant

Georgia joined Capita Symonds’ as a Graduate Acoustic Consultant in May 2011. She previously lived in Scotland for five years where she gained a first class degree in Physics with Music and a Masters degree in Digital Composition and Performance, both from the University of Edinburgh.

Since joining the team, Georgia has conducted noise assessments from Blackburn to Bristol and has used specialist software to create acoustic models. She is a keen musician, with a special interest in percussion and electro-acoustic music and performance.

Sam Richardson, Financial Analyst

Sam is the Financial Analyst for the Acoustics and Air Quality Team within Capita Symonds.  He is responsible for the financial management and processes within the team, and is a specialist in the use of SAP. Sam is involved in all financial aspects of the business, including producing month end accounts, regular analysis and reporting, and the commercial review of projects. Sam is currently studying towards the AAT and CIMA professional accountancy qualifications.

Aside from his focus on finance, Sam is also has expertise in research and reporting on business ethics, and is a divisional champion for corporate social responsibility for Capita Symonds. He is a multi-instrumentalist, and is a keen home-studio music producer. He also plays baseball and has recently got into road cycling.
