From the daily commute to transporting
freight for commercial use, it underpins the economic and social
activity of the country. As populations become more mobile, the
demand for transport is growing, forcing governments to explore how
they can improve transit provision by enhancing existing systems or
creating new infrastructure.
However, creating a system which delivers real
value for the communities it serves, requires a holistic approach
which recognises the inter connectivity between transport
infrastructure and the wider urban environment.
Capita Symonds has a long history of working
alongside national and local governments to help them address the
numerous transport challenges they face. This begins with
establishing from the outset the viability of schemes and the
benefits they will deliver across the triple bottom line (economic,
social and environmental), to ensure that they will have a long
term positive impact. Our experience in the delivery of multi-modal
schemes gives us an in-depth insight into how the various
components interact together to achieve the best results.
Good infrastructure design is also central to the
success of a scheme providing assets that encourage social
inclusion, economic growth and enhance the surroundings in which
they are located. Our work at Green Park Station in London is an
example of this in action, here we designed a station which
increased accessibility for all users whilst also complementing the
historic surroundings of Green Park itself.
With the increased global focus on developing
solutions which address the issue of the ‘last mile’, Capita
Symonds is working to identify new approaches which have the
potential to fill this gap. In India, for example, we have been
working with Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System
Ltd (DIMTS) to develop the new Delhi Personal Rapid Transit
(PRT) system which would transform the way people travel around the
city and provide a benchmark for global best practice in this
sector.
