Capita Symonds appointed on North West Construction Framework

21 July 2010

Capita Symonds has been named as design partner to Bramall Construction for seven lots on Manchester City Council’s new North West Construction Hub Medium Value Framework.

Led by the Council on behalf of the North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership, the Hub’s aim is to provide Local Authorities across the North West with a vehicle for collaboratively procuring public sector construction projects worth £500,000 to £10m.

The North West is a region of contrasts covering the five areas of Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. With a £98 billion economy and a population of 6.7 million, the region has a diverse mix of people representing many ethnic groups.

In terms of construction, approximately £6.9 billion is currently spent on third party procurement across the 47 North West authorities, constituting over four million transactions per year across around 200,000 different suppliers. As such there is an ample opportunity for collaborative procurement within the region.

John Lorimer, NWCH Lead said:  “I am pleased with the outcome of the tendering process and look forward to working with our new partners over the coming years. The Medium Value Framework will eliminate costly procurement exercises for individual projects while providing savings for authorities, reductions in contract time, improved quality of work and other benefits such as training opportunities and apprenticeships, not obtainable through traditional procurement methods.”

Andrew Thomas, Chief Executive, Centre for Construction Innovation North West (CCI) said: "We would like to commend the local authorities' efforts in the creation of the framework. The basis of integrated supply chain working and adoption of fair payment practices are more important than ever in these challenging times. CCI will continue to provide ongoing support of the Hub's work and deliver the benefits this framework will bring in providing a stable workload for local contractors and better value for money to clients in the North West. “
