Capita Symonds has been appointed by Hull City Council to project
manage a proposed £84m scheme to provide extra care accommodation
and support primarily for people with dementia.
The scheme – part of the Council’s Extra Care
PFI programme - comprises the construction of 215 extra care
apartments for adults requiring 24/7 support including older
people; people with learning or physical disabilities; and those
with dementia, plus six apartments for those requiring
intermediate/respite care. Communal facilities include a
restaurant, lounge, and rooms for social, health and well-being
activities.
The accommodation will cover three sites which
have been selected specifically to aid local regeneration -
Hawthorn Avenue (West Hull market renewal area); The Thorpes
(Orchard Park regeneration area); and Leads Rd (East Hull), all of
which have outline planning consent
The project will also include Centres of
Excellence for people with dementia which will develop and
disseminate best practice; and the procurement of facilities
management, tenancy management, and care and catering services.
Hull City Council's Extra Care PFI is crucial
to the delivery of the medium term target of 600 additional extra
care homes in the next 6-8 years set within the Council’s Extra
Care Strategy. The strategy envisages a range of differing
types of provision to meet the diverse needs of adults requiring
support to continue to live independently and avoid moving into
residential care.
