Capita Symonds today announces that it has been selected as
preferred bidder by North Tyneside Council to provide wide-ranging
property, highways and maintenance services in a partnership
designed to deliver both cost savings and improved services to
citizens.
The core contract is expected to be worth approximately £152m
over 15 years, with significant opportunities for growth.
The services, delivered in partnership with the council, would
include highways engineering, traffic and transportation planning,
properties and facilities management, planning and building
control, consumer protections and environmental health
services.
The partnership will see the TUPE transfer of 335 Council staff
to Capita Symonds, and a further 58 full-time equivalent employees
will be seconded to enable the council to fulfil its statutory
duties for planning, environmental health and licensing.
Graham Cowley, Chief Operating Officer, Capita Symonds, said:
“We look forward to working with the council over the next 15 years
to deliver real value and improved services to North Tyneside
communities. Our partnership presents us with exciting
opportunities for development, growth and job creation in the
region, and is expected to deliver at least £41m in
savings to the Council.”
North Tyneside’s Elected Mayor, Mrs Linda Arkley said:
“Partnership with external providers is the best solution for the
council, its taxpayers, its staff and the borough. The partnership
options we have selected are by far the most advantageous for North
Tyneside. They will enable the council to invest in services,
safeguard employee jobs and deliver further growth and investment
for the borough, as well as achieve the stringent efficiency
targets we have set.”
