Glenrothes Now in Store

16 September 2010

The Kingdom Shopping Centre in Glenrothes and the Fife Space Gallery have embarked on an unusual and interesting project which will see an artist producing paintings ‘live’ from inside a shop window.

‘Glenrothes Now’ is a series of oil paintings by prominent Scottish artist, Alexander Guy, that are being created for an exhibition which will take place in the Fife Space Gallery from 11th October – 20th November 2010.

Alexander Guy will create the final two paintings for the exhibition in a transformed shop unit in the Kingdom Shopping Centre, Glenrothes which is managed by NB Real Estate, part of Capita Symonds. The aim of the venture is to present the general public of Glenrothes with a unique opportunity to view the creation of a sophisticated and colourful exhibition themed on their town and to allow them to have a dialogue with the artist.

The exhibition has been designed to present a true, honest, candid, down to earth, visual souvenir of modern contemporary life in Glenrothes. ‘Townscapes’ featuring the local vicinity and ‘still life's’ of familiar and popular shopping and grocery goods bought in Glenrothes will visually combine to form a clear, positive statement embracing life in Glenrothes.

Alexander Guy intends that his exhibition will be uplifting, positive and generous, reflecting the actual spirit of the town and its people.

This project will run until Wednesday 6th October when the artwork will be transported to Rothes Halls in preparation for the opening of the exhibition on Monday 11th October.

Alexander Guy can be observed working on the paintings during shopping centre opening hours, Monday – Friday, however the unit will be open to the public each Saturday 10am – 12 noon and 1-5pm when the artist will be available to discuss his work.
