The John Pounds Community Centre in
Portsea, Portsmouth, has won the ‘Regenerating Communities’
category at the 2010 UK Housing Awards.
A team from Capita Symonds’ Procter Street
studio designed the £7m Centre which has regenerated a
semi-derelict site in one of the most deprived wards in South East
England.
Named after a philanthropic eighteenth century
Portsmouth cobbler, the mixed use development comprises 153 flats,
primary care facilities, shops, and an exciting community resource
centre set around courtyard gardens.
Capita Symonds also provided cost management,
geotechnical engineering, landscape & urban design, structural
engineering, acoustics, building services, environmental
assessment, management and design, highway design, and project
management services on the project.
