An
innovative healthy living initiative has begun at the Capita
Symonds-managed Kingdom Shopping Centre in Glenrothes.
The 'Kingdom Weight Challenge' is a community
partnership between NHS Fife, Fife Council, and Fife Sports and
Leisure Trust - in association with Kingdom FM and the Kingdom
Shopping Centre - to work together to develop a fun event that will
bring the community together and promote healthy lifestyles.
The ten week weight loss programme challenges
teams of four to adopt a healthy lifestyle and shrink waistlines in
the process. Weekly weigh-ins are taking place in the mall at the
Kingdom Shopping Centre on Tuesdays between 8am-11am and on
Thursdays between 4pm-7pm.
The top prize for the winning team and their
partners will be an overnight stay at the luxurious Fairmont Spa
Resort in St Andrews.
Anna Bulman, Capita Symonds, says: “New Year
is a time when many people make resolutions to lose weight and get
fitter, but, by the time February comes around many of these have
been forgotten. In Fife for 2011 we hope that these resolutions can
be for the long term and we have a team of health professionals
including dieticians and fitness instructors to provide expert
advice and support for the first three months of the year in the
Kingdom Shopping Centre. Participants will receive a weight loss
diet plan, based on healthy eating and the opportunity to take part
in a variety of activity sessions based on their level of
fitness.”
“This is an excellent example of a valuable
CSR project that makes great use of mall space for a real community
purpose. The challenge has been extremely well received; the
original limit was 120 teams but this had to be increased due to
the overwhelming demand. 135 teams of four have signed up,
including the Kingdom Centre's very own team - ‘The Pork
Scratchers’!” she adds.
