The Mayflower Community School, designed by the Plymouth studio of
Capita Architecture, has recently been recognised in two awards
events.
It was a finalist in the LABC South West
Awards for ‘Best Educational Development’, and was Highly Commended
at the BCSE Awards dinner in the ‘Best Outdoor Learning
Environment’ category last week.
The school is based on a concept of
‘Classrooms as Pavilions in the Park’, drawing on the character of
the local environment and making the most of the site. This created
an open friendly environment where the class rooms and playground
merge with each other and their surroundings, maintaining the open,
accessible feeling of the site.
