Two council buildings in the centre of Altrincham are due to be
demolished over the coming weeks in order to make way for the new
£120m Altair development.
Capita Symonds is providing civil, structural and
geo-environmental engineering services on the scheme on behalf of
client Nikal Investments.
Situated adjacent to Altrincham railway and bus station, the
Altair development is expected to create 2000 jobs and will
comprise a 3000 seat ice rink, residential apartments, offices, an
85 bed hotel and a 1000-space underground car park. It will also
potentially house a new Healthcare Building for Trafford Healthcare
NHS.
The key challenges of the scheme include the creation of the
underground car park, covering all the site, the programming of the
construction of the new ice rink to suit the decant of the existing
on site temporary ice rink, and the array of differing building
grids to facilitate the mixed use above the podium and their
relationship with the car park structure below.
