Power Station has officially opened.
Capita Symonds is providing Industri Management with safety
plans, risk assessments and acoustic services for the 1,300sq ft
space which features a ten metre clear roof affording views of the
iconic structure. The venue can hold 700 guests for a sit down
dinner and up to a 1000 guests for a stand up reception,
Capita Symonds is also advising and auditing health and safety
paperwork produced by event organisers to ensure it meets the
standards set by Wandsworth Borough Council.
Capita Symonds’ acoustics team also has a long standing
association with Industri Management and Battersea Power Station,
having provided noise management services on a number of events
both large and small.
Battersea Power Station is a disused power station that was the
first in a series of large coal-fired electricity generating
facilities set up in England as part of the National Grid power
distribution system in the 1930s.
The power station was built in two halves. Construction
commenced in 1929 with Battersea A completed in 1935 and Battersea
B coming into service in 1944. Battersea A eventually ceased
generation in 1975, with Battersea B closing in 1983.
One of the largest brick buildings in Europe, with a footprint
of just over six acres, the power station was listed Grade 2 in
1980 and upgraded to Grade 2* in 2007.
Historically the power station has famously appeared in The
Beatles' 1965 film ‘Help!’, on the cover of Pink Floyd's 1977 album
‘Animals’, and on the sleeve notes of The Who’s ‘Quadrophenia’.
More recent productions associated with the power station
include Batman: The Dark Knight, Guy Richie’s RockNRolla, Mike
Lee’s ‘Happy Go Lucky’ and Terry Gilliam’s ‘The Imaginarium of Dr.
Parnassus. The Power Station has also been used for countless large
scale events such as Cirque du Soleil, LG Freeze and Red Bull X
Fighters.
