Capita Lovejoy – the land planning
division of Capita Symonds – has been appointed by Hinckley and
Bosworth Borough Council to draw up masterplans for the development
and regeneration of Earl Shilton and Barwell in
Leicestershire.
Plans will focus on
sustainable urban extensions to the south of Earl Shilton and west
of Barwell, as well as the regeneration of the two settlement
centres. The plans will then inform the preparation of an Area
Action Plan in 2010.
The masterplans will seek to guide the form
and appearance of the proposed development to ensure that it not
only provides attractive environments for residents to live and
work in, but that they are also well integrated with the existing
communities of Earl Shilton and Barwell.
It is anticipated that by 2026 the proposed
development will deliver 2000 new homes and 10ha of employment
development at Earl Shilton, and 2500 new homes and 15ha of
employment development at Barwell. This growth will be supported by
the provision of community facilities including new schools and
healthcare services, substantial recreation space, and improved
walking, cycling and public transport provision between Barwell,
Earl Shilton and nearby Hinckley.
The masterplanning process seeks to build on
the community engagement work undertaken by the Council in 2008
that sought to raise awareness of the proposals, identify key
issues and objectives, and define a vision for the future
growth.
Over the last few months Capita Lovejoy has
undertaken a series of site assessments and is now, together with a
team of Council officers, preparing a number of options which will
be the subject of further public consultation next month.
