Capita Symonds Appointed on Education Village

Glynllifon

Capita Symonds has been appointed to provide multidisciplinary services on a new £10m project at the PA@G (Pentref Addysg @ Glynlliffon) Education Village at Glynllifon in North Wales.

The project comprises a new build teaching block and the refurbishment of a residential block within the parkland of the historic Glynllifon Estate.

The wider project, part of a redevelopment of the Coleg Meirion Dwyfor Campus at Glynllifon, is due for completion in 2011 and will create an Education Village to drive forward education, training and rural development in North West Wales.

The project is the first phase of the P@G scheme which will ultimately include business starter units as well as drawing in other learning provider partners to further expand the village.

The contract has been secured as a result of the team’s longstanding relationship with the Coleg Meirion Dwyfor and Coleg Llandrillo colleges which are planning to merge in April 2010. Capita Symonds also played an integral part in securing grant funding from the WAG (Welsh Assembly Government) for the £10m first phase of the PA@G scheme.

The team’s current appointment is for the project management and design of the refurbishment project and the feasibility and design (up to submission) of the detailed planning application on the new build project.

Paul Terry, Director of Capita Symonds’ Colwyn Bay office, said: “I am very proud of what we have managed to achieve and the way in which the offices have worked together on the scheme. It has been quite a buzz for us - we went from a call one Thursday to the 3D images, plans and elevations for a potential scheme and a full grant application in less than three weeks!”
