David Lloyd, former England coach and Lancashire County
Cricket Club (LCCC) captain, has hammered home the final bolt at
The Point, the new £12m hospitality and events facility at the
club’s Old Trafford ground.
The project is part of the first phase of the ground’s
redevelopment which also includes a new outfield. Capita Symonds is
providing civil, structural and geotechnical consultancy services
on the first phase of the scheme on behalf of client Morgan
Ashurst.
The team is also providing advice on the Masterplan for the rest
of the venue’s redevelopment which includes two new grandstands, a
redesigned pavilion, permanent floodlights, a state-of-the-art
scoreboard, a hotel, new player dressing rooms and a new media
facility.
The redevelopment will provide the ground with a capacity of
15,000 - rising to 25,000 on match days - and is expected to be
completed in time for the club to bid for an Ashes Test match in
2013.

The Point will be an elevated suite with a stunning aspect,
being glass-fronted and having a balcony overlooking the famous Old
Trafford Pitch. Inside the facility, there will be 7m headroom with
no pillars to spoil the view. Due for completion in June 2010, this
purpose-built facility will be able to accommodate a conference or
a formal dinner for up to 1,000 people.
David Lloyd said: “I believe they needed a left-hander to hammer
the final bolt in correctly, so I was only too happy to offer my
services. They kept it quiet about going up in a cherry picker
though, but compared to close in fielding, it was a breeze.”
David added: “I have seen the fly through DVD showing how this
development will look when completed next year and it will be a
very impressive addition to the ground. This is a famous sporting
venue and improvements of this nature can only be good for the club
and the local area. ‘The Point’ at Lancashire County Cricket Club
(LCCC) is going to be one of the most prestigious event venues in
the country.”
