
Capita Symonds has been appointed to the NWTRA (North
Wales Trunk Road Agency) engineering consultancy
framework.
The place was won on the three year framework after a
competitive tendering process.
NWTRA is a partnership of the six local authorities in North
Wales; Isle of Anglesey CC, Conwy CBC, Denbighshire CC, Flintshire
CC, Gwynedd Council and Wrexham CBC. It is responsible to the Welsh
Assembly Government (WAG) for the management and maintenance of all
trunk roads in North Wales.
Covering 20 service categories, the framework will be used by
NWTRA but is also open to the local authority partners. The
categories of work are:
- Highway design
- Design and detailing of new structures
- Project management
- General civil engineering design
- Assessment/modification/strengthening/repair of existing
structures
- Transport planning, including transport appraisal (WelTAG
etc.)
- Tunnel management and engineering
- Traffic engineering, intelligent transport systems and
associated specialisms;
- Network/incident management
- Asset management
- CDM co-ordination
- Engineering surveying
- Strategy preparation
- Contract preparation, administration and site supervision
- Geotechnical desk studies, design of ground investigation and
geotechnical design
- Road safety audits
- Cost/benefit analysis
- Mechanical and electrical engineering consultancy services
- Management/supervision of demolition projects
- Coastal protection and land drainage
Capita Symonds (in the form of Travers Morgan and Symonds Group)
was responsible for the design and construction of parts of the A55
North Wales Trunk Road in the 1980s and 1990s, including the major
tunnels at Conwy, Penmaenmawr and Pen y Clip.
