Salford City Council has approved plans for a major
regeneration scheme for the city centre.
Planning proposals submitted by developer English Cities Fund
and the Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company cover 18ha and
comprise 849 new homes, 390 hotel rooms, 24,000sq metres of retail,
food, drink and entertainment space and 197,000 sq metres of office
space.
Urban Vision - Capita Symonds’ joint venture with Salford City
Council – acted as case officer and processed the application on
behalf of the Council.
A new footbridge across the River Irwell, cycle routes,
pedestrian pathways and open spaces have also been incorporated
into the plans. Funding for the project will be secured from the
developers and private backers as part of the development
process.
Derek Antrobus, lead member for planning at Salford City Council
said: "We are delighted our vision to restore Salford’s city centre
has been taken a step forward today by the approval of this
planning application."
