Salford

Salford City Council has approved plans for a major regeneration scheme for the city centre.

Planning proposals submitted by developer English Cities Fund and the Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company cover 18ha and comprise 849 new homes, 390 hotel rooms, 24,000sq metres of retail, food, drink and entertainment space and 197,000 sq metres of office space.

Urban Vision - Capita Symonds’ joint venture with Salford City Council – acted as case officer and processed the application on behalf of the Council.

A new footbridge across the River Irwell, cycle routes, pedestrian pathways and open spaces have also been incorporated into the plans. Funding for the project will be secured from the developers and private backers as part of the development process.

Derek Antrobus, lead member for planning at Salford City Council said: "We are delighted our vision to restore Salford’s city centre has been taken a step forward today by the approval of this planning application."
