New Somerset Cricket Pavilion is a hit

2 June 2010

The new Colin Atkinson Pavilion at Somerset County Cricket Club (SCCC) in Taunton has been officially opened by England cricketer Marcus Trescothick.

A team from Capita Symonds’ Bristol office provided project management, QS and CDMC services on the scheme which is the third phase of a plan to redevelop the Club’s County Ground into a 15,000 capacity venue capable of hosting test matches.

The Colin Atkinson Pavillion comprises the 400-capactity County Room on the ground floor and the 200-capacity Long Room, plus a balcony seating area, on the first.

As well as affording SCCC members perfect views of the action, the facility also provides the south west with a much needed state-of-the-art conferencing and banqueting centre.

Work started on the project in November 2009. The previous building, housing the changing rooms, club offices, player’s hospitality and dining room, was part demolished, extended and refurbished.

Despite the bad weather over the winter, which also coincided with the roof being removed and replaced, the project was completed in time for a live Sky TV match which saw Somerset beat the Sussex Sharks.

This is the office’s latest project in its long term relationship with SCCC and it is hoped that subsequent projects will include the wider ground redevelopment, hotel facilities and sustainable technology.
