The facts
Client: LinkedIn UK
Location: London
Services: Occupier Fit-out
Start/ Completion: 2009 - 2010
The project
This project involved the fit-out of 10,000 sq ft of
office space at the Charlotte Building, 17 Gresse Street, London
W1. This was to be LinkedIn’s UK headquarters providing social
media work space for approximately 100 staff. The lead discipline
was design and project management with support from move
management, CDM, building surveying and SKA
assessment.
Capita Symonds was instructed by LinkedIn, a dynamic US client
with 100% growth per annum, to provide good quality office
accommodation that promoted the brand whilst providing a unique
London feel. The brief was to create a comfortable environment and
promote staff customization.
The client’s senior team and decision makers were based in the US
and wanted the HQ office adapted to their needs in BREEAM
‘Excellent’ rated space. However, the landlord was fastidious about
the building and Capita Symonds had to work with the constraints of
the landlord’s base build air displacement system, no ceiling void
and surface mounted lighting tracks.
Capita Symonds provided a total service from design and project
management through to move management. A full workplace review was
carried out and a design brief developed with both the UK and US
offices. The scheme was fully designed by Capita Symonds and
project governance established with the UK project team and regular
conference call meetings with the US steering committee. Concise
details were regularly reviewed for comment by the M&E team
allowing time to develop and co-ordinate the scheme thoroughly.
Capita Symonds steered the design to be environmentally sympathetic
to the building’s BREEAM status by carrying out a SKA assessment.
This is an environmental rating endorsed by RICS for workplace fit
outs.
Capita Symonds provided an end-to-end service of consultancy which
saved time, meant a single point of responsibility and ensured
exact control over the quality and cost. The concise detailing and
full specifications produced by both the design and surveying teams
ensured accurate tender costing. Capita Symonds’ workplace review
ensured that a precise brief was developed and no time was wasted
during the planning stages. Capita Symonds achieved an SKA rating
of silver which met the client’s expectation. The project was
delivered under budget and on programme.
