The project

Capita Symonds advises Cumbria County Council on managing its large tree stock including street trees, farm estates, woodlands with public access, country parks and office complexes.

We have been surveying school sites for Cumbria for the past four years and have used a variety of digital data capture devices such as PDA’s and Tablet PC’s for the inventory collection. In Cumbria we only collect information on trees of 7cm diameter at breast height and trees are collected individually or where applicable they are collected as groups.

Our methodology for this contract is to contact the schools prior to our visit, walk the grounds with a school representative which gives us a clear understanding of the survey area. The surveys use Visual Tree Assessment including the use of Matheny and Clark scoring system. We were provided with details of who to report serious issues too so that the school could arrange any urgent tree surgery works.
