The project
The Fourcross discipline of mountain biking is a growing sport
internationally due to it’s accessability/visibility for spectators
and adrenaline filled competitive nature. In 2002 the UK had no
official facilities on which to train or host races within the
national or international mountain biking scene.
Capita Symonds' partner, Phil Saxena of Architrail was
commissioned by the organisers of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup
at Fort William, Scotland to design and supervise construction of
the first Fourcross track in the UK to an international
standard.
Since the initial construction, Architrail have returned each
year for the past 7 years to modify and improve the track design to
remain at the cutting edge of the sport.
Interesting facts:
- Pioneering track building techniques were developed to allow
construction of such a large scale track on deep peat bog.
- It was the 1st Fourcross track in the UK.
- It was the 1st World Cup Fourcross track in the UK
- The track was voted to be the best Fourcross track from the
World Cup series for 3 years running.
