Gatwick Airport Strategic Development Study 2012

The facts

Client:   BAA
Location:  Gatwick
Services:  Masterplanning, Facilities Planning
Sector:   Aviation
Start/Completion:  2008 - ongoing

The project

Capita Symonds is appointed to provide BAA with a Strategic Masterplan and Design Vision for the redevelopment of the North Terminal complex at Gatwick Airport.

Gatwick Airport is the UK’s second busiest airport and is the world’s most productive single runway operation. It has over 100 airlines serving over 250 destinations.

North Terminal is expected to grow to 24 million passengers per annum (mppa) by 2012 from current capacity of 14mppa. This growth is premised upon the expansion of the EasyJet LCC fleet at Gatwick and the movement of airlines from the South terminal which is beyond capacity.

The scope of the study will address:

  • Transport capacity and Surface Access
  • Forecourt operations
  • MSCP developments
  • Landside Terminal capacity
  • Revised Check-in model to include CUSS and fast bag drop
  • Landside and airside retail and commercial opportunities
  • A new midfield pier and connection to terminal

The study will also identify future expansion potential including asset review and potential cost of disposal scenario’s and proofing.
