The Project

GunhildWay School is the first Cambridgeshire County Council school hoping to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.

Gunhild Way lies to the south east of Cambridge City Centre.

The primary school is designed for 480 students and 60 staff members.  The School has been designed to be wholly accessible providing an individual, attractive, robust and adaptable internal and external environment which is enjoyable, stimulating and conducive to achieving excellent standards of working and learning. The careful design optimises the balance between dedicated and shared spaces to achieve the most efficient relationship between different areas. The school is divided into four distinct elements each expressed differently and detailed to reflect its purpose.

The design has been carefully developed to optimise the balance between dedicated spaces and shared spaces and to obtain the most efficient relationship between the different areas. The sharing of support facilities is has been actively incorporated.

The new primary school footprint covers an area of 1996m² and it is disposed in two floors giving a total area of 3632m². The new build area is approximately less than 10% of the whole site.
