The project
Continental Landscapes Ltd are a contractor for the London
Borough of Hounslow - undertaking grounds maintenance and
arboricultural operations for the authority. Within their contract
there is a condition to undertake a complete inventory of all trees
in parks, open spaces, cemeteries and allotments. Through an
existing partnership between Capita Symonds and Continental
Landscapes initiated in Wolverhampton - we were awarded the task of
completing the inventory.
The tree population in the parks and open spaces was estimated
at 20,000 trees.
Using a web based version of RA Systems Ezytreev, a dedicated
tree management system, a tree data record was created for each
individual tree and groups of trees where they were
indistinguishable. The project was conducted in very short time
scales as requested by London Borough of Hounslow. All surveys and
works had to be completed by June 2010 - therefore the survey
needed to be competed by February 2010 in order to give ample time
for essential works to be completed.
Capita Symonds provided tree data capture devices and GPS units
to locate trees accurately on the systems maps.
Once all the data has been collected and uploaded into Ezytreev
management system a web site to display the data will be created.
This will be used by Continental Landscapes to display for access
by L.B. Hounslow. The web data will be hosted by Capita
Symonds.
Four tree surveyors were employed to undertake the survey by
Capita Symonds, and we also undertook the project
management.
