The project
Having acquired the former RAF Hythe establishment SEEDA
is now developing it as a commercial marine business
park. This includes improvement of alongside berthing
facilities and waterside working areas.
The site comprises several large sheds and workshops onshore,
served by two slipways capable of servicing a wide range of marine
craft. An existing jetty connects to two large barge landing
platforms providing alongside berthing. A further large moored
barge and four smaller pontoons are planned to extend the berthing
available.
Capita Symonds was appointed to advise on
improvements, to provide certification for existing barge
landing platforms, and to design and implement schemes to develop
the barge landing platform provision, install services to berths,
and design and supervise reconstruction of a slipway.
