The facts
Client: North Warwickshire and Hinckley
College
Project construction value: £13m
Services provided: Cost Management
Start/ Completion Date: 2008-2011
The project
Northcroft has been providing various professional consultancy
services to North Warwickshire and Hinckley College over the past
few years, including their £13m New Campus Development and a new
£1m Engineering Centre. Throughout this period Northcroft developed
a close professional and personable relationship with the client
based on mutual trust.
New Campus Development
The development provides a new flagship 54,000sqft campus for
the College. The development site is within the cartilage of a
listed building and the client required the new campus to respect
and complement the character of the retained buildings and the
surrounding area. As well as respecting the surrounding character
of the site the new campus is designed to protect the College’s
unique values and aims.
The new campus is to provide a first class learning and teaching
environment to reflect its current Ofsted “Outstanding” rating for
effectiveness. Sustainability was at the forefront of the design
process and the scheme is on target to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’
rating.
In order to maintain the College’s high standard learning
environment, the project had to be completed in time for the new
term in 2011; this has meant Northcroft has had to work closely
with the Client and the contractor in a collaborative manner in
order to ensure the tight programme is adhered to.
Collaborative Working
As cost consultants working from the outset we were able to form
an impressive working relationship with other key members of the
project team in particular with the College itself. We took early
steps in establishing how the client’s energy efficiency
aspirations could be achieved within the approved fixed budget.
Continuous Value Engineering
The College has a finite budget to complete the project and
Northcroft has been working with the team to achieve continuous
value engineering which to date has reduced the project final
account by approximately £2m.
