The project
Capita Symonds’ Sport Leisure and Culture team was appointed to
develop an options appraisal into the future of municipal golf
provision in Hull. The Council owns and operates two 18-hole
municipal golf courses (Springhead Park and Sutton Park) located on
the eastern and western boundaries of the city. Usage of the
courses was continuing to fall, resulting in a persistent
deterioration in the net operating position.
The Council wanted to explore a number of options for the future
of the two golf facilities while maintaining its specific objective
to deliver sustainable and affordable opportunities for local
people to play golf.
An assessment of the local golf market showed that Hull and the
surrounding area are well served by golf courses. The study
identified all potential options for the Council’s facilities,
reviewed and evaluated each option and made recommendations as to
the most appropriate way forward.
The study provided the Council with the tools necessary to make
an informed decision on the future of public golf provision in
Hull.
