The project
In 2007, the Tour de France came to central London for
the Opening Ceremony which was held in Trafalgar Square and
televised live.
The Prologue time trial was held on a figure of eight circuit
commencing in Whitehall and passing through Parliament Square, Hyde
Park and past Buckingham Palace to finish on the Mall and was
attended by an estimated quarter of a million people.
The winner of the time trial took the yellow jersey to wear on
the first stage of the Tour proper which commenced on the Mall
(Depart Fictif) and progressed through London to commence the race
proper at Greenwich before progressing through Kent to the finish
at Canterbury.
Capita Symonds provided safety advice in the planning of the
public safety aspects of holding the event in London - including
crowd management strategies and management of UK and French
contractors and media. We also provided Safety management for
the media Village at ExCeL and facilities at Canterbury.
