The project

Velocity enhanced their extensive redevelopment of Sheffield with a 22-storey, £25m mixed-use development.

Capita Symonds was retained for civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and geo-environmental engineering services as well as cost management and construction management for the continued development.

The structural form uses in situ reinforced concrete (RC) with flat slab construction supported off RC columns. The design is incorporating well established construction methods to speed up construction, flat slab, proprietary reinforcement products and slipform.

Originally the building was designed to 36 storeys (which would have made it the tallest building in Sheffield), but this height was rejected by planning.

Capita Symonds also developed innovative design solutions to assist construction. An example of this innovation is to develop a goods hoist in the lift core to serve the site.
