Sustainability

Sustainability is central to much of what Capita Symonds does. Our design and advisory services cover a wide range of topics of direct relevance to all three elements of sustainability: environmental, social and economic. These services include:

• the specification and design of buildings and structures
• the choice of construction materials, including considerations of whole life costing
• energy, water and waste efficiency during construction and operation
• location options and supporting studies covering siting and access
• environmental impact assessment and sustainability appraisal
• policy advice and research studies
• cost management and long-term project monitoring

We have carried out several sustainability appraisals of plans and programmes, for local authorities and for sponsors of major development initiatives. As well as being familiar with Government guidelines on sustainability appraisal, we have developed our own models for screening individual developments and proposals at an early stage to ensure that considerations of sustainability are built in from the outset.
